Awards Firesteed 1994 Citation Pinot Noir
Reviews Firesteed 2000 Citation Pinot Noir Versatile Pinot Noir for Summer Grilling. We have tasted this Pinot Noir with salmon each year for the past several years (thank you, Howard!), and it has always paired well with the grilled fish. Please note that this wine is nearly a decade old. Winemaking technique, selection of appropriate lots and a light hand with new oak combined to create a wine with balanced structure - just right for aging. The nose is light cherry and strawberry with nuances of dusty earth, orange zest and floral perfume. the palate offers flavors of tangy cherry, earth and light spicy oak on the finish. "Wines of the Week" Chuck Hill, Wines Northwest, June 25, 2009
Harpers Wine & Spirits: Do visit the Oregon stand and taste the Firesteed Cellars Citation Pinot Noir 2000. It was certainly my taste of vinous heaven on my first day of the LIWF. "LIWF Day 1 - Different Opinions" Carol Emmas, May 13, 2009
Firesteed 1998 Citation Pinot Noir Don't be afraid of threat dusty, old wine This Oregon Wine is a decade old, and likely hard to find around here. But if you can find it online it would be worth ordering. This is a wonderful example of a delicate Pinot Noir and how it can evolve and develop more earthy flavors such as mushrooms and spices as it ages and loses some of the youthful fruitiness. This would go marvelous with light pasta dishes, salmon or even a grilled portobello mushroom. this should cost in the neighborhood of $50 depending on which Web site you find it. "Uncorked" Don Baker, Dayton Business Journal, February 1, 2008
Firesteed 1995 Citation Pinot Noir Exceptional: 1995 Citation Pinot Noir, Oregon ($50). Yes, a 10-year-old Pinot Noir just being released. Pepper, spice, pale color, but racy and sleek, with moderate tannins and a lovely fruit base. A 1994 Citation ($50) is slightly earthier with a sweet entry and Burgundian finish. Both available at 503-623-8683. Notes on the Tasting Notes: Another project worth noting is that of Howard Rossbach, who was a wine marketing executive in Washington, founding a major marketing company and then left to develop his own brand, Firesteed, focusing on Oregon Pinot Noir. One project he began 15 years ago was to make an Oregon Pinot that aged. In 1994 and 1995 he did just that; the result was Citation. The Citation wines (above) are excellent mature examples of Oregon Pinot Noir. The 1996 and 1997 didn't make it and the wines were declassified, but there will be a wine from 1998 on. All wines are held 10 years before release. "Tasting Notes" Dan Berger, January 20, 2005 Firesteed 1994 Citation Pinot Noir This is a wine that proves the age ability of Oregon Pinot Noir. Tasting note: Supple and round; beautiful bouquet. Full, resonant flavors, dense with strawberry preserves. Paul Gregutt, Seattle Times Magazine, Sept. 19, 2004
